Andrew McNutt

Andrew McNutt is a computer science researcher and educator specializing in human-computer interaction, data visualization, and programming interfaces. He is currently an Assistant Professor at the Scientific Computing and Imaging Institute and the Kahlert School of Computing at the University of Utah. During his PhD studies in Computer Science at the University of Chicago, his research focused on syntax design for visualization systems, improving programming interfaces, and exploring theoretical aspects of visualization, with a particular emphasis on providing user-friendly and efficient tools. He has also worked as a research intern at Tableau Research and Microsoft Research and received the Siebel Scholarship for his exceptional academic achievements. Andrew's research not only addresses technical advancements but also examines visualization's applications within socio-technical contexts—especially advancing the field through interdisciplinary and critical perspectives.
