Hiroshi Ishii

Professor Hiroshi Ishii is the Jerome B. Wiesner Professor of Media Arts and Sciences at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Media Lab, where he currently serves as the Associate Director and leads the Tangible Media Group. He is renowned for pioneering the field of Tangible User Interfaces (TUI), notably through his seminal 1997 paper, "Tangible Bits." Professor Ishii’s research focuses on representing digital information in dynamic physical forms, breaking the boundaries of traditional Graphical User Interfaces (GUI). His vision of "Radical Atoms" has further advanced the field of shape-changing interfaces. His work has garnered widespread recognition in both academic and design communities. Professor Ishii has been honored with awards such as the SIGCHI Lifetime Research Award (2019) and ACM Fellowship (2022).
