Alexandra To

Alexandra Ion is an Assistant Professor at Carnegie Mellon University's Human-Computer Interaction Institute, where she leads the Interactive Structures Lab. Her research focuses on developing interactive design tools that simplify the digital fabrication of complex shapes and structures. Her work spans the areas of human-computer interaction, digital fabrication, shape-changing materials, and computational design. Her research has been published in top-tier HCI conferences and received multiple awards. Additionally, her creations have been featured in several exhibitions, including permanent displays at the Ars Electronica Center in Austria and traveling exhibitions in South America and Germany. Before joining Carnegie Mellon University, she conducted postdoctoral research at ETH Zurich in Switzerland and completed her Ph.D. at the Hasso Plattner Institute in Germany.
