Ethan Zuckerman

Ethan Zuckerman is an American media scholar, blogger, and internet activist. He graduated with a degree in Philosophy from Williams College and studied at the University of Ghana as a Fulbright scholar. He served as the Director of the Center for Civic Media at MIT and was an Associate Professor of the Practice in Media Arts and Sciences. His research focuses on leveraging media for social change, the role of technology in international development, and the application of new media technologies in activism. He co-founded the international blogging community Global Voices and founded Geekcorps, an organization providing IT volunteering services to developing countries. He is also known for inventing the pop-up ad. Zuckerman is currently an Associate Professor of Public Policy, Communication, and Information at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. His book, Rewire: Digital Cosmopolitans in the Age of Connection, won the Zócalo Book Prize.
