David Ribes

David Ribes is a Professor in the Department of Human-Centered Design and Engineering (HCDE) at the University of Washington. He specializes in the development and sustainability of research infrastructure, particularly networked information technologies supporting interdisciplinary science. His research interests include Science and Technology Studies (STS), sociology, and the philosophy of history, focusing on long-term transformations in scientific research and their impact on research subjects. His methodological approaches involve ethnographic research, archival historical analysis, and comparative studies. Regularly presenting at conferences and publishing in academic journals, Ribes serves as the Principal Investigator for projects funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF) and the National Institutes of Health (NIH), deeply exploring the ecosystem of HIV/AIDS research infrastructure and transformations in information technology.
