Deirdre K. Mulligan

Deirdre K. Mulligan is a professor at the School of Information, University of California, Berkeley, specializing in privacy, information policy, and technology fairness. She serves as Faculty Director at the Berkeley Center for Law & Technology and as an advisor to multiple academic and policy research organizations. She previously served as Principal Deputy to the U.S. Chief Technology Officer and Director of the National Artificial Intelligence Initiative Office during the Biden-Harris Administration, leading technical teams to advance equitable applications of technology and data innovation. Her research focuses on safeguarding core values such as privacy, freedom of expression, and fairness through legal and technological means. Professor Mulligan's work has been widely published and she has received the Leadership Award from the International Association of Privacy Professionals.
