Ellen Zegura

Ellen W. Zegura is a renowned American computer scientist, currently a professor in the College of Computing at the Georgia Institute of Technology. From 2007 to 2012, she served as the founding Chair of the School of Computer Science. She specializes in researching computer networks and applying them to address societal challenges. Zegura graduated from Washington University in St. Louis, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science in 1987, a Master’s degree in 1990, and a Ph.D. in 1993. Her research areas include network applications, network-layer services, and the role of computing technologies in community development. She is a Fellow of both IEEE and ACM, recognized for her contributions to communication and computing in intermittently connected networks. Additionally, she has been actively involved in Georgia Tech’s decade-long initiatives on technology and community development. Zegura’s academic and research contributions have profoundly impacted the fields of computer networks and computing for social good.
