Organic Abstractions: An Exploration of Space Through Multiple Mediums

In the summer of 2022, an undergraduate environmental design course was taught at Auburn University by faculty from the School of Industrial and Graphic Design and the School of Architecture, Planning, and Landscape Architecture. This pictorial will present the student’s work and describe a unique methodology for using the idea of abstractions across multiple mediums to generate form and space. Over an intensive five-week period, students explored model making, slow drawing, and digital media through a multifaceted workflow process. Multiple tools and techniques were investigated at varying scales. Ideas were conceptualized through prototyping, graphite pattern explorations, and computer graphic representations. Artifacts produced revealed unique forms threaded through each medium utilized. Final models, drawings, and representations express the concept of abstractions across mediums to generate space and form.
