What it is

Accelerating warning click-through is a systematic reduction, within the same person, in time from warning appearance to continuation across repeated exposure. It is an observable process marker of habituation and action automation: button location and task-resumption behavior are learned until later action may precede comprehension.

Why it happens

Repetition chunks “dialog appears—find continue—resume work” into one action. Practice removes visual search and deliberative reading, shortening response. Fixed focus and keyboard shortcuts strengthen automation. Speed can also improve through legitimate familiarity, device performance, or an easier task, so it must be interpreted with content recall and decision correctness.

Studying it

Within participants, timestamp each warning's appearance, first input, choice, and dismissal while keeping risk, device, and task difficulty comparable. Model exposure sequence against latency and insert a changed or genuinely high-risk event late to test detection. Remove loading delay and account for assistive-input differences. Fast action by itself is not a diagnosis of irresponsibility.

Where it stops holding

Faster handling of a understood, repetitive, low-risk decision may be efficient expertise. Response time also varies with motor ability, input method, and interface latency and must not support individual punishment or profiling. It becomes security-design evidence when acceleration accompanies reduced reading, missed content change, or incorrect continuation.

Applying it

• For research and quality monitoring, collect sequence-linked minimal timing events without unrelated content or employee performance use.
• Analyze latency together with correct choice, content recall, and warning-change detection rather than drawing a single-metric conclusion.
• If late responses become mechanical, deduplicate, restructure the decision, or apply a safe default before lengthening copy.
• Validate keyboard, screen-reader, touch, and pointer paths to separate automatic disregard from legitimate skilled operation.
