Dietmar Offenhuber

Dietmar Offenhuber is a professor and department chair of Art and Design at Northeastern University, as well as the founding director of the Master’s program in Information Design and Data Visualization. A graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, his work focuses on urban computing, public policy, and design, examining the interaction between data visualization and urban governance. His academic contributions span diverse topics including tracking urban waste and managing smart infrastructure. He is the author of books such as Autographic Design: The Matter of Data in a Self-inscribing World. His research explores both the physicality of data and its social implications, advocating for the development of smart communities through data narratives.
