Sijia Xiao

Sijia Xiao is a postdoctoral researcher at the Human-Computer Interaction Institute at Carnegie Mellon University, specializing in human-computer interaction (HCI), social computing, and responsible artificial intelligence research. Her work focuses on developing frameworks and tools for sociotechnical systems that are not only technologically robust but also socially responsible. Sijia's research goals include fostering sustained societal transformation through mechanisms of compensation and repair after technological harm, as well as balancing technical risks and potential benefits in AI innovation. Her work has been published in leading academic conferences such as CHI, CSCW, and AIES, and has been featured in international media outlets such as The New York Times, The Guardian, and CNN. She has received a CHI Honorable Mention Award and multiple research grants.
