Woontack Woo

Woontack Woo is a professor at the Graduate School of Culture Technology at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST). He currently serves as the founding dean of the Graduate School of Metaverse (GSMV) and is the founding director of the Augmented Reality Research Center (ARRC). A pioneer in the field of Mixed and Augmented Reality (MAR), he introduced the concept of Ubiquitous Virtual Reality (UVR) and established the theoretical foundation for context-aware augmented reality and spatial computing. His research focuses on context-aware augmented reality, 3D vision, HCI, and augmented human technologies in the post-metaverse era. He has received numerous best paper awards at premier conferences such as IEEE ISMAR and IEEE VR, and authored academic papers with over 10,000 citations. He is also actively involved in academic leadership roles, including serving as President of the Korean HCI Society and chairing several international conferences.
