Lawrence H. Kim

Lawrence Kim is an assistant professor in the School of Computing Science at Simon Fraser University and the director of Tangent Lab. His research focuses on human-computer interaction, robotics, and haptics, particularly the design and development of touch interfaces with emotional interaction capabilities to enhance users' physical and mental health. His work has received multiple Best Paper Awards and Honorable Mentions at top-tier conferences like CHI, UIST, and HRI, as well as the "Innovation by Design" Honorable Mention from Fast Company. Before joining Simon Fraser University, he was a postdoctoral researcher at Stanford University School of Medicine and received his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering (with a minor in Computer Science) from Stanford University. His academic background also includes a master's degree supported by the Samsung Scholarship and a bachelor's degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
