David D Clark

David Dana Clark (born 1944) is an American computer scientist and Internet pioneer who has been involved in the development of the Internet since the mid-1970s. He is a Senior Research Scientist at the MIT Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL), focusing on areas such as Internet architecture, support for real-time traffic, service explicit allocation, pricing and its economic impacts, and issues in local network policy. As the chief protocol architect of the Internet, he led the design and implementation of the TCP/IP protocol and served as Chair of the Internet Activities Board from 1981 to 1989. For his significant contributions to Internet protocols and architecture, he has received numerous awards, including the IEEE Richard W. Hamming Medal and the SIGCOMM Award. He is also a co-author of the paper "End-to-End Arguments in System Design," which has had a profound impact on the principles of system design.
