Dorothy Howard is an information scientist, researcher, and librarian/archivist. Her research examines knowledge production in sociotechnical systems, including the labor required to maintain and scale free and open-source software projects, community governance design, and Wikipedia and open-knowledge communities. Her publications include "Ways of Knowing When Research Subjects Care" (CHI 2019, with Lilly Irani) and "The Labor of Maintaining and Scaling Free and Open-Source Software Projects" (Proceedings of the ACM on Human-Computer Interaction / CSCW, 2021, with R. Stuart Geiger and Lilly Irani). She is currently pursuing an MLIS at the Pratt Institute School of Information and serving as the MoMA Archives Linked Open Data Fellow. She previously worked as Wikipedian in Residence at the Metropolitan New York Library Council.
